An NFL player faces assault and resisting arrest charges for allegedly punching a police sergeant in Queens.

Prosecutors say Detroit Lions Linebacker Trevor Bates slugged Sergeant James O’Brien inside the 115th police precinct stationhouse in Queens.

He was originally arrested and taken into custody for allegedly refusing to pay his cab fare at the Hampton Inn on Ditmars Boulevard in Astoria.

Investigators say Bates became agitated at the precinct and swung at O'Brien, who was allegedly trying to calm him down.

Police were able to subdue the 6 foot 2, 240 pound NFL football player with a Taser.

O'Brien was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a concussion and a cut over his left eye.

If convicted, Bates could spend up to seven years in prison.
