The MTA says it's going forward with Governor Cuomo's new plan that avoids the dreaded "L" train shutdown.

Plans to close the Canarsie Tunnel for 15 months of repairs had been in the works for years.

But all that was upended by the Governor's surprise announcement of his new plan earlier this month.

Sources tell us that since the new plan doesn't cost any more than the original plan it doesn't need to go up for a vote.

Instead of a full shutdown, limited interruptions will occur on nights and on weekends.

MTA board member Veronica Vanterpool was on "Inside City Hall" Thursday night.

She spoke about how the Governor kept his plans from the board.

She says she learned just 11 minutes before it was announced to the public.

"It certainly affirms for me that the MTA board is not in control, we do not have authority. In fact it suggests to me that the governor has a good deal of influence and is calling a lot of the shots," Vanterpool said.

The MTA says it is now working with various contractors on a final construction schedule, but estimates it will take somewhere between 15 and 20 months.
