Commuters traveling through LaGuardia Airport can enjoy a new concourse starting today.

11 new gates are opened inside Terminal B, it’s part of an $8 billion plan to modernize the airport.

The first flight took off from the Terminal B expansion last night with a water canon salute:

Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United are operating flights from the concourse.

"It's something you have to see in person and it is really setting the bar high for our airport and other airports possibly even worldwide, not even locally. It's all about the customer experience. We want you to have a pleasurable experience once you walk in the door until you step off the aircraft at your final destination," said Justin Franco, a spokesperson for American Airlines.

Travelers will have access to charging stations throughout seating areas, a nursing room, and lots of shopping.

The newest location of toy store FAO Schwarz will be inside the terminal.
