Thanksgiving is just days away and for many, that means lots of food. But for the less fortunate, finding a meal can be a struggle.

Dozens of student volunteers are helping to change that with today's seventh annual "Pie Day." They baked more than 450 pies for the homeless to enjoy this Thanksgiving in the cafeteria of the Ethical Culture School on the Upper West Side.

"Pie Day" is organized by Project Rousseau, a non-profit helping young people in the city pursue higher education.

"It's such a sense of humanity that's given to the residents and clients of the shelters to which we deliver, because they realize that someone's been caring about them and someone’s been thinking about them and someone wants them to have an enjoyable Thanksgiving - so our sense of community really extends to those who receive the pies as well," Andrew Heinrich, Founder and Executive Director of Project Rousseau said.

The pies will be delivered to shelters today and on Wednesday, many of the volunteers will return to those shelters to help serve the pies they baked.
