Hundreds gathered in Lower Manhattan Sunday to bring awareness to chronic kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundation held its annual Kidney Walk in Foley Square.

Walkers are raising money to fund kidney donation programs and services.

Many of those who came to walk or watch are donors or recipients, looking for ways to give back.

"It's just a whole new life. When you get a whole new life, I just make sure I give back in every way possible, because, you know, I have to be here for a reason," said one participant.

The event raised more than $1 million.
