A Manhattan teen is on a mission to become one of the first young women to join the Boy Scouts of America.

Sydney Ireland has been an unofficial member since she was four years old, when her brother was a Cub Scout.

Sydney and several other young women have been somewhat successful in their fight to join the organization that's been boys-only for more than 100 years.

This year, the Cub Scouts became co-ed, but the Boy Scouts' policy wont change until 2019.

Unfortunately Sydney will "age out" of the program before then, preventing her from reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, making her miss out on potential scholarships and job opportunities.

Sydney sat down with our Pat Kiernan to tell us more about her fight.

Ireland’s family is urging supporters to take action and email AT&T CEO - Boy Scouts President Randall Stephenson and Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh, telling these leaders that young women like Sydney should be allowed to join the Boy Scouts.
