FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas - The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported one of its drug investigators located about a million dollars in cocaine during a traffic stop Thursday morning.

About 9:43 a.m., Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith initiated a traffic stop on a 2009 Volkswagen sedan on westbound Interstate 10, near the Flatonia exit.

The driver seemed nervous, and after obtaining permission to search the vehicle Smith opened the trunk to find a travel bag filled with nine vacuum-sealed bricks. The contents tested positive for cocaine.

Edelmiro Alanis Silva, 59, of Neuvo Leon, Mexico, was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
