BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo native Mary Pecoraro celebrated her 105th birthday at the HighPointe on Michigan nursing home Saturday.

To help put that in perspective, Mary was born in 1912, the same year the Titanic sank.

"It's surreal. I mean it really is a surreal feeling when you think 105 years old and what she has witnessed in her life,” said Mary’s daughter, Lucille Alessandra.

As the years have gone on, Mary has lost her hearing, but otherwise her kids say she's still sharp as a tack.

"I'll tell you what: she's in fantastic shape, she's in better shape than me,” said Mary’s 72-year-old son, George Pecoraro.

According to the CDC, she is among about 72,000 other centenarians. And she credits her Italian roots for helping her make that list.
