GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A white flag emergency is still in effect in Greensboro.

The Interactive Resource Center activated it Friday for the first time this season.

When temperatures are forecast to drop below 25 for two hours or more, or there's severe weather, the IRC, YWCA Family Shelter, and Greensboro Urban Ministry's Weaver House stay open around the clock to give homeless people a safe place to stay.

The IRC says 74 people took advantage of the white flag status Friday night.

The shelters give people a chance to get out of the cold, have a hot meal, shower and sleep.
