NY1 got an exclusive first look Monday at the BQX Connector, which would link waterfront communities between Queens and Brooklyn.

A prototype of the streetcar was built to push for the development of the project.

Advocates say the city conducted a feasibility analysis for the last year and a half.

They are now waiting for the results to see what the next steps are.

The line would cost about $2.5 billion.

Fares would cost the same as the subway -- currently $2.75.

The city hopes to break ground on the commuter line by 2019 and have it running by 2024.
