A school in Pomonok is going high-tech to help students prepare for their futures.

Several elected leaders were on hand at PS 201Q to help cut the ribbon on a new STEAM SmartLab Tuesday. STEAM, stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. Students got a chance to test out those fields with the lab's new gadgets, they include talking robots, new computers and even a 3-D printer.

The smartlab was built thanks to a $400,000 allocation by city councilman Rory Lancman and money from the Magnet Schools Assistance Program.

" This is a great community with great kids and if they get the resources that other kids get they'll succeed," said Lancman.

"This to me is what all students should have it's also going to give the middle schools in the neighborhood a run for their money because these students are already going to go into middle school prepared to be scientists of tomorrow," said New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina.

The school is also preparing students for future jobs in television. This new broadcast studio was also built thanks to the funding.
