NEW YORK - Commuters at Penn Station can now use a new expanded concourse across Eighth Avenue.

The West End Concourse allows commuters to enter Penn Station through the Farley Post Office.

It's the first time Penn Station passenger access has ever extended under the Farley building, part of an effort spearheaded by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The concourse is designed to ease congestion and provide track access for those traveling in and out of the Penn.

This is the first phase of a plan to bring rail operations for Amtrak and the Long Island Rail Road into the Farley Building, which will eventually be known as Moynihan Station.

Former New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan first floated the idea of turning the post office  into a transit complex back in the 1990s.
