A man has been charged in the brutal beating of a street vendor caught on video in the Bronx.

Police say 21-year-old William Burgess and four other men attacked Souleymayne Porgo last Tuesday.

It happened around 5 p.m. near East 149th Street and Third Avenue in Melrose.

Burgess is now facing gang assault charges, but police are still searching for his accomplices.

Porgo suffered swelling in his brain and had to have part of his skull removed.

Local leaders are now calling on police to beef up security in the neighborhood.

"This specific location in the 3rd Avenue hub is the second location with the most foot traffic after Times Square. And I find it unnecessary and unacceptable that we do not have adequate police offers here patrolling our streets," said City Councilman Rafael Salamanca.

A $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest of the other men police are looking for.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
