NEW YORK - Straphangers in New York know all too well what it's like to be late because of the subway.

But what happens when you miss your graduation?

Video shot Tuesday on the E train during all of the delays showed Jerich Alcantara, who was set to graduate from the Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing.

When it became apparent he was not going to make it, his fellow straphangers decided to throw him his own graduation ceremony.

"I was wearing the cap and gown the whole time, and honestly when we were on the train at some point it looked like everyone was kinda upset, tired of everything so I decided I'd just thank everyone for being there for my graduation that it meant a whole lot to me and then they just all started cheering," Alcantara said.

But the day wasn't a total loss. Alcantara says when he finally arrived at the graduation nearly three hours later his friends and family threw him a mini-celebration.
