Runners raced to the top of One World Trade Center on Sunday morning to honor those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
They ran all the way to the 102nd floor for the third annual Tunnel to Towers Stair Climb Honoring Captain Billy Burke.
Burke was a firefighter who died in the September 11th attacks.
"This building represents so many acts of courage that happened on September 11th, 2001," said Frank Siller, the CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
"There are 2,226 steps," Siller continued. "I guarantee you that on 9/11, there were 2,226 acts of heroism that day. So every step they take, I guarantee you there's a story. Some we know about, like Captain Billy Burke, some we know about, like my brother Stephen Siller."
This year's honorary starters included the widows of FDNY Battalion Chief Michael Fahy and NYPD Detective Steven McDonald.
Fahy was killed in a Bronx building explosion last September, and McDonald died this year after he was shot and paralyzed in the line-of-duty in 1986.
Proceeds from the event help fund high-tech smart homes for wounded military veterans.
