Women in Brooklyn are laying down the hammer for a good cause.

Hundreds are helping build affordable housing on Dean Street in Brownsville on Saturday.

It is part of a Habitat for Humanity Program, which brings women together to provide homes for low to moderate-income families.

"We’re bringing 15 units of affordable home ownership in one of the lowest home ownership rate neighborhoods in all of New York City," said Sabrina Lippman with Habitat for Humanity. "It is absolutely life transforming for the families moving in here, but really, it is going to be transforming the entire community surrounding us."

The organization says the project is expected to be finished by the fall so that families can move in by the time the holiday season arrives.
