City officials are pushing Uber and other car service apps to create an option for tips.

The Taxi and Limousine Commission says it's working on a proposal that would require ride-sharing companies to let passengers tip drivers right through the app.

Customers can pay for their ride through the app with a credit card. But if they want to tip, they have to do so in cash.

Some drivers NY1 spoke to say most people don't tip at all, and it takes a hit on their income.

"Now, passengers don't want to tip, we don't get at all because of that. They feel, sometimes I think they feel that tip is included. Maybe they have in their mind it was like that," said one driver.

"It helps a lot. It helps maybe because you can get $40, $45, $30, $20 a day, so it helps to put like the gas. So I think it help a little more," said another.

More than 11,000 Uber employees in favor of the gratuity option have signed a petition.

Uber released a statement saying it's looking forward to reviewing the plan.
