Thursday marked 20 years since the death of one of music's most celebrated rappers.

The Notorious B.I.G., also known as Biggie Smalls, was shot and killed in Los Angeles two decades ago.

He was only 24 years old.

His killers have never been caught.

Biggie, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was born and raised in Brooklyn.

Despite a career that only lasted about three years, he went on to become one of the borough's most influential hip-hop artists.

His daughter honors his legacy with a memorial service on the Upper East Side.

The restaurant Sojourn on 79th Street near Second Avenue is dedicating a wall in Wallace's honor.
