Local artists will soon have the opportunity to leave their mark on the North Shore.

The City's Department of Small Business Services awarded Staten Island Arts and the 100 Gates Project, funding to revitalize commercial spaces across Downtown Staten Island.

The organizations will work with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce to commission local artists to lend their artistic talents to local businesses by painting their roll-down security gates.

"It helps with with neighborhood beautification. It help detering illegal graffiti," said Director Natalie Raben.

"For the last two years we have been developing, working with the community, and a set of fellows to develop a set of recommendations about ways that arts and culture can help connect people and places," said Monica Valenzuela, Deputy Director at SI Arts.
