Students in several Queens Neighborhoods will soon get the opportunity to decide how more than two million dollars will be used in their schools.
Concilmember Elizabeth Crowley whose district includes Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Woodhaven and Woodside, is expanding her participatory budgeting process.
Previously, the process allowed communities to vote on projects they would like to see funded, well now, it will include students- voting on two out of three proposals that they'd like to see benefit their own school.
The proposals range from enhancing technology to campus renovations.
Councilmember Crowley says the process empowers students and their parents in the decision-making process.
"It helps them learn about democracy. It gives them a choice and they will vote. They will see the power of their own vote and their participation" said Councilwoman Crowley.
Elementary and middle school students will vote the week of March 24th, while high schools will vote the week of March 27th. All ballots must be returned no later than March 31 to be counted.
