The NYPD is looking into a car crash in the Bronx on Wednesday night that left an off-duty female officer dead and one other person critically injured.

Police say a Dodge Charger overturned and caught fire near the City Island Circle around 11 p.m.

A female victim, identified as Bianca Bennett, 27, of Queens, suffered severe burns and died at the scene.

Police say she was assigned to a Manhattan precinct. She was the car's only passenger.

A 32-year-old man who was also in the car was taken to the hospital in critical condition with trauma and burns to his legs. He is a police officer and was off-duty, but officials have not said where he works.

Two other off-duty officers saw the wreck and tried to help the victims.

Both were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

It is not clear who was driving the car, or why it overturned.

Police say no other cars were involved.
