The widow of fallen FDNY Deputy Chief Michael Fahy is paying it forward.

During a fundraiser honoring her husband, Fiona Fahy decided not to accept future donations, instead asking for the funds to be redirected to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, where it will be used to build homes for injured members of the military.

"Mike wanted to support the work of the Stephen Siller Foundation because he such a deep, deep respect for the members of our armed forces. And he appreciated the large and small sacrifices that these heroes and their families make on a daily basis. Mike used to tell the kids and explain, 'Freedom is not free.'"

Fahy was killed in a house explosion in the Bronx last month after being hit by debris.

The funds for the veterans will be raised in Fahy’s name.
