It was The Ramones' own 'Rock 'n' Roll High School.'

Now, a street in front is named for them.

The intersection of 67th Avenue and 110th Street in front of Forest Hills High School was officially named, "The Ramones Way."

It’s where the punk rock pioneers - Joey, Tommy, Dee Dee and Johnny - first met and formed their band. They went to school here in the 1960s, before becoming legends a decade or so later.

"Very significant, especially to people who've lived here a long time," said Mickey Leigh.

Leigh is a long-time resident and the brother of lead singer Joey Ramone. The band may not have cared much about history then, but now they're part of it.

"People are going to come here and derive much information from this sign," Leigh said.

Legislation authorizing the street naming was passed by the City Council and signed by Mayor de Blasio.

While the four original Ramones are no longer alive, their music lives on.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, and received a Grammy lifetime achievement award in 2011.

"They did create a cult following that kept them going and they actually did very well overseas in England and in Europe," said David Erdlyi, a nephew of original drummer Tommy Ramone.

He says he passed his musical memories of the Ramones on to his daughter. She says she is still interpreting them.

"It's really loud and stuff and it's hard to hear what they're saying because they're kind of like screaming," Faith Erdelyi said.

Superfan Jesse Padilla traveled all the way from Los Angeles for the street-naming.

"I can't think of another band that has shaped the life of an artist, a person, a musician worldwide," Padilla said.

Another Fan dusted off her old Forest Hills yearbook from 1967, to find this photo of band member Tommy Ramone and relive old memories.

"I remember cheering, being in the audience when the Tangerine Puppets are performing. That was the first band Tommy was in," added classmate Felice Margulis.

Now, generations later, when students come to class here in Forest Hills — they'll be reminded of some of their school's most famous students.
