A Staten Island school is immersing students in cutting-edge technology.

A fifth grade class at P.S. 22 showed off their latest virtual reality video game creations Monday.

It's all part of the VR Quest Education Design Program, funded through Staten Island Councilor Debi Rose's office.

Students chose topics like history and science to design their own virtual worlds from start to finish.

They said the coursework is already helping them in other classes.

"We already know how to type, and we can have a better imagination if we're doing a fictional story, and it can help us get our grades up," student Tyler Caputo said.

"We're incorporating technology and creativity, and with a medium that the children really like and enjoy," Rose said.

Rose said she plans to expand the program as more funding becomes available.
