Thousands of people took advantage of Sunday's beautiful weather to celebrate Persian pride in Manhattan.

The 13th annual Persian Parade turned Midtown into a sea of red, green and white as it made its way down Madison Avenue.

The event celebrates the culture, traditions and contributions Persians have made to the United States.

"The parade has been put together to try to give an identity to our children, and our older people that live in this country, to take a pride in who they are, because we get a lot of negative sentiment from western media, and that's a very good platform for us to show that Iranians have a very rich history."

The parade is also a part of the new year festival Nowruz, which marks the beginning of spring and celebrates the rebirth of nature.
