Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out early this morning in a Bronx apartment building.

The flames broke out around 2:30 a.m. at a building located at 1893 Andrews Avenue and West Burnside Avenue in Morris Heights.

FDNY officials say they believe it started in an apartment located on the fifth floor.

More than 100 firefighters were called to the scene.

About half of the 60 apartments in the building were affected.

"I just grabbed my family and ran. I had three minutes. In three minutes the whole house was full of smoke, three minute window. We just had enough time and as we were going out, the firemen were coming in. Thank God for the firemen," said one building resident.

"I have more water damage and my ceilings have fallen down, my bed is wet, but thank God everybody is safe," said another building resident.

Six people who live in the building suffered smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross says it is helping 10 residents find emergency housing.
