Tenants of an East Harlem building are rising up against their landlord, after complaining for months about poor living conditions.
The Department of Buildings says tenants in a building on 2nd Avenue have been without cooking gas since July.
Lawyers for the tenants say the building also has intermittent heat and hot water.
The building's owner was recently named one of the city's worst landlords by Public Advocate Letitia James.
DOB officials say the building has racked up 112 violations.
"The tenants are fed up with the conditions they've been living in," said attorney David Fillingame. "They've been living without basic services like cooking gas, heat, hot water, and unsafe conditions and they want the landlord to do something about it.
"In my client's apartment the landlord did construction right underneath it that destabilized her apartment and made it a very unsafe and hazardous condition."
The tenants' lawyers say some apartments are missing doors and have severe cracking along the walls and ceilings.
The landlord told NY1 that he is waiting for reconstruction plans to be approved.
He says he's given tenants hot plates to cook with, but does not know when gas will be restored.
