Bronx Councilwoman Maria del Carmen Arroyo is stepping down.
In a statement released Monday, she said she needs to dedicate her time and efforts to addressing pressing family needs, but did not elaborate.
Her resignation will take effect December 31.
Arroyo was first elected to the council in 2005.
