You can now help document Queens' history thanks to a community program.

The Queens Memory Project collects stories, photos, and artifacts that represent the borough's past. Organizers host events at various Queens Library branches, where residents can stop by and add their old photos to the collection.

The photos are then digitized and placed in online archives where they can be viewed by the public.

The project began in 2010. It's a collaboration between the Queens Library and Queens College.

"The purpose of the project is twofold. It's to diversify and democratize the historic record of Queens. So it's really a way of getting to stories and histories that may not make it to the archive in a traditional way, "said Queens Memory Project Outreach Coordinator Maggie Schreiner.
