A Brooklyn-based taxi carpooling app may have found a way to encourage strangers to share a cab, all while helping them save time and money.

The CEO of Bandwagon says that his app has paired up more than 1,700 riders who have decided to trade the privacy of a solo ride for the convenience of a cheaper fare during its two-month piloting program at LaGuardia Airport.

The app charges $5 per customer, but it promises shorter taxi lines.

Bandwagon says its app helps the environment by taking at least 50 cars off the road per day. The app is available for Apple and Android devices.
