The U.S. Open is underway in Queens, but there's some professional training for the renowned tournament going on in Brooklyn. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez filed this report.

Aleksandr Nedovyesov of Kazakhstan played at the U.S. Open last year, and is back again this year. When he comes to New York, he practices in Brooklyn at a sports complex called MatchPoint.

"Every year I come to Matchpoint to get ready for U.S. Open so they've got everything I need to be ready to be fit to play. They've good quality courts, same as the U.S. Open," Nedovyesov says.

Nedovyesov, the 95th ranked men's tennis player in the world, trains with Nino Muhatasov—one of the co-founders of MatchPoint. Muhatasov developed the program on Long Island back in 2008, then moved to Gravesend last year.

"We have nine courts in line. It's a facility that's 120,000 square feet under one roof. It's probably one of the largest indoor facilites in the city, not just in Brooklyn," says Muhatasov.

From the pros to beginners, the center provides instructional as well as recreational play.

You don't need to be a member to use the tennis facility. The public can reserve an available court in advance.

There's more than tennis here. There's a junior Olympic size swimming pool and a gym among other amenities.  But for those, you'll need a membership.

"We offer over 100 classes per week on fitness. They vary from boot camp to yoga to pilates to spinning," says MatchPoint General Manager Dmitriy Novik.

Still for these two weeks, all the focus is on tennis and all the action happening in the borough next door.

"I'm really excited to be back in New York. It's a really special tournament. One of the biggest four in the world," Nedovyesov says.

Nedovyesov plays his first round Tuesday.
