Two NYPD detectives killed in their patrol car in December were honored Saturday in two ceremonies in Brooklyn. NY1's Matt McClure filed the following report.

The Brooklyn Cyclones took to the field Saturday night to celebrate their home opener against the Staten Island Yankees. It's the team's 15th year on Coney Island.

But before the celebration, the team took time out to remember members of the NYPD who died in the line of duty. Detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were shot dead in their patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant on December 20.

Liu's family was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. His mother and father were joined by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

"One of the most important commitments we make to a person, man or woman, when they put on the police uniform, that if you fall in the line of duty, we are never going to forget you and we're going to embrace your family," Adams siad.

The team held a moment of silence in memory of Ramos and Liu, along with fallen detective Brian Moore, who was shot dead in Queens last month.

A group of NYPD officers carried a ceremonial American flag onto the field for the singing of national anthem.

"Even though we're a small ballpark, we're not Citi Field or Yankee Stadium, Brooklyn never forgets, and we do great things," said Sol Moglen, founder of the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance.

Earlier in the day, a street in Cypress Hills was renamed in memory of Liu's partner. Ridgewood Avenue between Shepherd Avenue and Highland Place is now know as Detective Rafael Ramos Way.

"He simply wanted to help others. He was willing to do whatever it took. And he made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us," said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

"The idea that in this neighborhood, people can walk back and forth and look up at that sign and they will remember, we will remember, Detective Rafael Ramos," said Police Commissioner William Bratton.

Just last Saturday, West Sixth Street between Avenue S and Avenue T in Gravesend was named after Liu.

The ceremonial first pitch by Liu's family capped off several remembrances of the fallen officers in the last week.
