Gristedes supermarket owner and former mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis says he might be interested in buying the Daily News.

He addressed reports that he could buy the paper on Tuesday night's edition of "Inside City Hall."

The billionaire reportedly has met with Mort Zuckerman, the owner and publisher of the Daily News.

Catsimatidis says the paper is a New York institution that deserves to live.

"We have some ideas and if all the dominos fall in the right direction, we have definitely interest. Mort is a very fine gentleman and he certainly, I'm sure he wants the newspaper to go into the hands of...good hands where it's going to survive and prosper," Catsimatidis said.

Zuckerman sent a memo to Daily News employees last week saying he was approached about a potential sale, and that he hired a financial advisory firm to help with the process.
