Friends and family gathered Saturday to remember one of the victims of last year's building explosion in East Harlem.

The event, which was held at Bethel Gospel Assembly in East Harlem, commemorates one year since the death of Griselde Camacho.

Camacho was a public safety officer at Hunter College and was the 2009 campus peace officer of the year.

Friends remembered her as a leader in the community.

"She was a born leader. She wanted us to always do what she wanted us to do, but she was all ways there to help us in any form," one woman said.

"She served everybody, made everybody come together, increased fellowship. She loved being around people and watching them enjoy each other," said one man.

Camacho leaves behind a 15-year-old son. Her mother was also badly injured in the explosion.
