New Yorkers could soon get paid for informing on drivers who let their cars idle.

City Council members Helen Rosenthal and Donovan Richards are pushing a bill that would let people submit video of idling cars to the Department of Environmental Protection.

In return, the informer would collect up to half the fine paid for idling.

Rosenthal is also looking to raise the fine to between $350 and $1,500.

It's currently illegal for any car or truck to be left running for more than three minutes, or more than one minute near a school.

Rosenthal tells the Daily News her bill is needed because the law is rarely enforced.

The measure would require residents to take a DEP training class, and identify themselves when submitting video of the idling car's license plate.
