The mission of the organization Per Scholas is to change the face of tech.

The free program focuses on advancing economic equity through training and placement in the tech industry.

It was founded in New York and is now in 20 cities across the country.

Debbie Roman, the managing director in New York, joined NY1 for "Women Wednesday" with more on her work and how New Yorkers can benefit.

Per Scholas serves 800 New Yorkers who get trained in the skill sets needed.

Their focus is on people who are unemployed or underemployed.

To further qualify, you need to have a high school diploma, be over 18 years old, and be able to work in the U.S. Training is 12 to 15 weeks long.
