The Department of Health announced yesterday it’s encouraging New Yorkers who receive food assistance to make healthier choices at the grocery store through the help of a new program.

It's called "Get the Good Stuff."

For every dollar of SNAP benefits spent on eligible foods at participating stores, the Department of Health will add a dollar to the shopper's loyalty card to be spent on their next purchase.

Shoppers can earn up to $50 dollars per day with the program.

Currently three Fine Fare Supermarkets located in Queens and the Bronx are participating in the program, and a Three Guys Supermarket in Brooklyn will participate starting in early 2020.

Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Health Dr. Torian Easterling, and the Director of the Mayor's Office of Food Policy Kate MacKenzie join Annika on Mornings On 1 to discuss the initiative.
