Gov. Kathy Hochul's choice for the next chief judge is facing pushback by some Democrats in the New York State Senate.

Hochul's nominee, Hector LaSalle, would be the first Latino to lead the Court of Appeals if confirmed.

Progressive activists and influential labor unions oppose LaSalle, saying he has often ruled conservatively.

However, a new group called Latinos for LaSalle is hoping to counter the opposition and see LaSalle get appointed to the state's highest court.

One of the group's members, Freddie Ferrer, joined Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" Tuesday night to discuss LaSalle and his nomination fight.

"This is a very, very good nominee," Ferrer said. "So to hear this opposition now is a little mystifying."

Ferrer previously ran for mayor back in 2005 and served as Bronx Borough President for 14 years. He also recently chaired Tom Suozzi's campaign for governor.
