In an effort to reduce racial inequalities when it comes to maternal health care, the Adams administration is expanding access to doulas and midwives.

According to city data, Black women are nine times more likely to die of a pregnancy-related cause than white women, and their rate of infant mortality is more than three times higher.

Latham Thomas, the co-founder of the Mama Glow Foundation, joined Errol Louis to talk more about the initiative. Mama Glow is one of the groups that has partnered with the city for this effort. Thomas is also the author of “Own Your Glow: A Soulful Guide to Luminous Living And Crowning The Queen Within” and “Mama Glow: A Hip Guide to Your Fabulous Abundant Pregnancy.”
