NEW YORK — One day after his colleagues elected him to become the chair of the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee, Queens Rep. Gregory Meeks joined anchor Errol Louis on Inside City Hall to discuss his priorities for the position, which he will he take over in January.

Rep. Meeks said his many years of experience will help him in the role, in which he will succeed Bronx Rep. Eliot Engel, who lost his primary earlier this year.

Meeks said he would be focused on efforts for a peace process in the Middle East. “The Palestinians have to come to the table to negotiate," he said.

He also said relations with China will be a priority for himself and the Biden Administration.

When asked about his political priorities as chair of the Queens Democratic Party, Meeks said he wanted to hear candidates for mayor lay out a comprehensive plan to help a city struggling to deal with the many impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m trying to listen to their vision," Meeks said.
