Brooklyn Councilmember Alexa Avilés joins "In Focus" to discuss Puerto Rican pride and the National Puerto Rican Day Parade. She represents District 38, which includes neighborhoods in Sunset Park, Red Hook and parts of Greenwood Heights, Borough Park, and Windsor Terrace.

Avilés was born in Puerto Rico and grew up on the streets of East New York. She shares her concerns for the island and marks immigrant heritage month.

Avilés has been fighting for immigrant rights and explains what the city and state need to do to better protect them. She also discusses housing, what she wants to see in the city budget and shares her thoughts on NYCHA.
