The one place where the political glass ceiling seems to be pretty much intact is in New York's City Council. Of the 51 council members, only 13 are women, and six of them are about to be term-limited out. Alicka Ampry-Samuel is one of the 13.

She joined In Focus to talk about her shock that, in a city that is more than 50% female, the council fails to reflect that.

And, the city has never had a female mayor. She says that, while women are leading the field as educators, health care workers and community advocates, they just can't seem to gain traction when it comes to political leadership, and that is something she is working to change.
