There is a pretty spot in Prospect Park that is very special for Alex Salazar and Krissa Cetner of Brooklyn.

Five years ago they were married there, at Mile 6 of the RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, which they were running that day.

It was a unique nuptial for the couple who first met in 2012. Cetner was playing volleyball, Salazar the referee. The two bonded over many things, among them their love of running.

What You Need To Know

  • The RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon is back at full capacity for the first time since 2019

  • More than 22,000 runners are expected

  • It's the 40th running of the Brooklyn Half Marathon

  • Among the runners are Krissa Cetner and Alex Salazar, who were married at Mile 6 of the race in 2017

"It was Krissa's idea coming home from a run one day," said Salazar. “We didn't have anything planned for our wedding just yet. She was like, ‘We should get married during the Brooklyn Half.’ I said, ‘Yeah, why not, that sounds like a pretty fun idea.’”

The two will return to the course on Saturday to celebrate their fifth anniversary at the New York Road Runners event.

And this time, the two will have a new cheerleader: their son, who is appropriately named Myles.

"He is named after our love for running, with a Y, just to mix it up a little bit," said Cetner.

Salazar, a technology consultant, and Cetner, an orthopedic nurse practitioner, don't get to run together as much these days. Parenthood will do that sometimes, so running the Brooklyn Half will be fun. No renewal of vows is planned though.

"Oh no not yet, too early, five years is too early, maybe ten years," said the couple, who say they will have a friend meet them with Myles and enjoy some hot dogs and beer in Coney Island.

You can bet though they will be taking a few moments off of their race time, to revisit that day five years ago.

"We'll probably stop and at least take a picture, we don't have anything officially planned but we will definitely stop and take a picture and kiss," said Cetner.
