New York City is gearing up for a green and sustainable Earth Day celebration with a range of events and activities that promote environmental awareness and preservation.

From eco-friendly concerts and clean-up efforts to special exhibitions and community events, the city is offering a variety of ways for New Yorkers to show their commitment to protecting our planet.

Here’s a guide of Earth Day events happening throughout the five boroughs this weekend.

Manhattan

Whitney Museum of American Art

The museum is offering free admission for all visitors to celebrate Earth Day.

A climate-related family program, led by artist and Manhattan native Gabriela Salazar, will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There are also three exhibitions that cover climate issues available for viewing this weekend: “No existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria,” “Jaune Quick-To-See Smith: Memory Map” and “Josh Kline: Project for a New American Century.”

The Trust for Governors Island and the Friends of Governors Island are hosting the island’s second annual Earth Day celebration, a day filled with free programming for all ages, including educational activities and workshops, guided tours and live performances.

Rockefeller Center is celebrating Earth Day on Center Plaza with free live musical performances, family-friendly activities, a special visit from Roxy the Owl and more.

The Brooklyn Public Library is hosting “Earth Day Crafts: Make a Recycled Notebook” at its Brooklyn Heights branch to show visitors how to make a recycled notebook out of a cereal box.
