The teen mother accused of abandoning her baby in Elmira appears in court.

Prosecutors say 17-year-old Harriette Hoyt left her 8-month-old daughter in a trash bag in some bushes on Walnut Street in August. The girl was found alive and placed in foster care.

Hoyt is charged with second-degree attempted murder, reckless endangerment and abandonment of a child.

She underwent a mental evaluation, and in court Friday, the judge ordered it to be turned over to the defense. They'll have a chance to review the findings before Hoyt's next court appearance. That's scheduled for November 17.
