Nearly a week after New York relaxed almost all COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions, coronavirus cases continue to decline.
According to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office, only 251 cases statewide were reported in the last 24 hours, putting the 7-day average positivity rate at 0.37%, a percentage that has decreased for the last 77 consecutive days.
Here are the 7-day average infection rates per region:
- Capital Region: 0.42%
- Central New York: 0.40%
- Finger Lakes: 0.46%
- Long Island: 0.41%
- Mid-Hudson: 0.33%
- Mohawk Valley: 0.37%
- New York City: 0.36%
- North Country: 0.58%
- Southern Tier: 0.42%
- Western New York: 0.27%
“From the highest positivity rate on the globe, to one of the lowest positivity rates in the nation, New Yorkers have worked tirelessly to keep their communities safe and show up for each other throughout the pandemic," Cuomo said in a statement Monday. “With reopening underway, New Yorkers should be proud of themselves and start living life again, enjoying all that our beautiful state has to offer. If you haven't already, get your vaccine so you can live life uninhibited and go forward to make priceless memories with your loved ones.”
There were still 10 deaths reported, bringing the statewide death toll to 42,928 since the pandemic began.
New York has now reached a 71% partial vaccination rate among those 18 years old and older, according to the statement, which cited CDC vaccination figures.
