Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday the number of cases of a rare and dangerous inflammatory syndrome seen in children has increased to 100.

There have been three known deaths.

The disease is believed to be connected to coronavirus. The syndrome is an inflammation of the blood vessels, and its symptoms are similar to the rare Kawasaki disease.

Overall in New York state, the numbers on coronavirus continue to decline. Hospitalizations and new cases are both down.

There were 195 deaths in the last 24 hours, a slight uptick from the day before.

Facing a massive budget shortfall, Cuomo also once again made a direct appeal to Washington for funding.

Lawmakers are considering a new federal stimulus package.

Cuomo claims that New York state needs $61 billion to cover what it is currently paying to confront coronavirus. That’s twice the number he said would be needed just a few days ago.

"The bill has to fund state and local governments. It has to fund working families. It has to fund state testing and tracing. Everybody talks about testing and teaching - it's all about testing and tracing. It is," Cuomo said. "No one has done it before. No state has this testing capacity. No state has this tracing capacity. We have to build it. We can do it, but it’s a heck of a logistical endeavor, and we need funding to do it, and we need a real economic stimulus."

Cuomo also renewed his call for Washington to repeal the changes made to deductions resident could make their state and local taxes, known as SALT. The Trump tax law of 2017 significantly reduced how much New Yorkers can deduct in local taxes from their federal tax returns.

Cuomo has said the changes disproportionately target blue states like New York, and he’s been calling for its appeal for more than two years now. However, neither Trump nor the Republicans in the Senate have shown any appetite to even consider repealing it.
