The city is closing down a field hospital at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, saying it no longer has any need for the 470-bed facility.
The field hospital opened April 10, in part to relieve the overcrowding at Elmhurst Hospital, but city officials said it treated a total of just 79 patients. Its last patients were discharged last Saturday.

In recent weeks, city officials have raised the possibility of re-purposing the facility to quarantine those who’ve tested positive for coronavirus but have no way to self-isolate at home. Instead, the city now plans to use hotel rooms exclusively for that purpose.
The site will now be returned to the U.S. Tennis Association, a process expected to take a few weeks.
