VESTAL, N.Y. –A Vestal Library is making sure kids keep up with their reading during the pandemic.

For the past five weeks, Librarian Anna Lake has taken a creative approach to the idea by hiding book cards at Vestal town parks.

Families bring kids to the park for a card search and once they find a card of their choosing, they can exchange it for a book at the library. Vestal's reading program usually has up to sixty kids, so there was an urgency to find a way to keep them reading.

"We usually have a very large following at Vestal. So I had to get a little creative and think, ‘what can I do outside the library that will still bring them in, but not all at once,’” Lake said.

The librarian pitched the idea to the town of Vestal, and it went from there.

The Library has given away more than 100 books.
