1824...The city takes title to a stretch of land in Manhattan running from Waverly Place to 13th Street, clearing the way for the construction of the street that will later be known as Fifth Avenue.
1977...The Puerto Rican terrorist group FALN claims responsibility for bombing two Midtown office buildings. One person was killed.
1979...Yankees All-Star catcher Thurman Munson is killed when the private plane he's piloting crashes upon landing in Munson's hometown of Akron, Ohio. He is 32.
